Project Description

Stephen A. Geller, M.D. is a pathologist with special interest in liver pathology (hepatopathology), autopsy pathology and the history of pathology.
He is currently Adjunct Professor, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Weill Cornell Medical College and has been Professor of Pathology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, and at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Los Angeles. He also is Emeritus Chairman and Professor, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles.
He has more than 200 published, peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters and has co-written two textbooks (Grundmann E, Geller SA: Histopathology. Baltimore, Urban and Schwarzenberg, 1989; Geller SA, Petrovic LM. Biopsy Interpretation of the Liver. Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 1st edition 2004, 2nd edition 2012.).
A graduate of Brooklyn College, Brooklyn, New York, he received his medical degree from the College of Medicine of Howard University, Washington, D.C.. He served an internship at Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, and was a Pathology resident at The Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, where he studied with Hans Popper, Sadao Otani, Lotte Strauss, Jacob Churg and others.
Dr. Geller served as Vice-President of the New York Pathological Society and President of both the Los Angeles Society of Pathologists and the California Society of Pathologists. He was also President of the History of Pathology Society. He has given more than 150 invited lectures at various institutions and scientific meetings and has received multiple teaching awards, including from the City University of New York and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, as well as Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Los Angeles Society of Pathologists and from Who’s Who in America. He is co-founder of the Hans Popper Hepatopathology Society.
He recently earned a Master of Fine Arts (Writing) degree from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. His first novel, A Little Piece of Me, was published in 2014 and he recently completed a second novel, Wrong Building, Wrong Apartment, Wrong Me. Dr. Geller lives in Manhattan, New York, and Beverly Hills, California.
